Congratulations! We are so excited to celebrate you and all your accomplishments.

University Commencement and Senior Celebration

Undergraduate Commencement takes place over two days. There are two separate events you can attend: University Commencement and CNS Senior Celebration. Plan on attending both ceremonies!

University Commencement

Friday, May 13, 2022
4:30 – 6:30 p.m., rain or shine
McGuirk Alumni Stadium, UMass Amherst

The University Commencement is UMass Amherst’s official, large graduation ceremony. It is held outdoors, rain or shine, and includes graduates from all majors on campus. The university website posts information as it becomes available about planning your visit and information for seniors, such as how to get a cap and gown, how to arrange senior portraits, etc.

CNS Senior Celebration

Saturday, May 14, 2022
9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Mullins Center, UMass Amherst

Downloadable program brochure HERE.

The College of Natural Sciences Senior Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 14, in the Mullins Center. This event will also be live streamed for those who do not wish to or cannot attend in person.

At this ceremony, CNS recognizes graduates from our 14 undergraduate departments and programs in a personalized way. Graduates receive a special commemorative medal and have their name announced as they cross the stage and are congratulated by college leaders. Each graduate’s time on stage is visible on jumbo video screens and captured by a professional photographer. A video of the ceremony will be posted on this website after the conclusion of this event for those unable to attend in person.

All departments in the College of Natural Sciences will be hosting receptions for graduates and their guests following the Senior Celebration at various locations across campus.  Locations will be posted here as that information becomes available.

More information and updates about the CNS Senior Celebration will be posted here as it becomes available. And stay tuned for the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and Graduate School Ceremony links.

Planning Your Visit

Mullins Center Safety & Security Procedures

As you plan your trip to the Mullins Center, please be aware of health safety and security measures in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.

Security Screening

All guests and graduates will be required to walk through metal detectors when entering the venue. To expedite the process, we ask guests and graduates to remove cell phones from their pockets. Small purses and diaper bags are allowed but will be inspected at all entrances. Bags larger than a clutch are not allowed. Outside food or beverages, weapons of any kind (including pocket knives), and tobacco products are not permitted inside the arena. For details on security procedures and a full list of prohibited items, please visit the Mullins Center website.

Covid Safety Protocol

As cases of COVID-19 are increasing in Massachusetts and nationally, we know that our commencement events draw thousands from all over. To protect yourself and others, we strongly encourage all graduates and guests to wear a face covering when attending any indoor commencement events, regardless of vaccination status.

We encourage you to check the University COVID-19 page for any updates. Check the information below for details and the UMass Covid link for up-to-date requirements, as current policies may change.

Mullins Center Accessibility Information

The Mullins Center is an ADA compliant facility. (Accessibility link here)  We advise guests to arrive early to allow extra time to enter the facility. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Accessible Parking

The lot adjacent to the Mullins Center is designated for handicap parking. A state-issued handicapped parking permit suffices for parking in designated accessible spaces on campus.  A university issued accessible parking pass for the Friday Commencement ceremony is also valid for parking on Saturday in designated accessible spaces.

Preferential Guest Seating

These seats are generally for people who have limited mobility, sight, or hearing. Seating for family members and guests with disabilities will be available in designated sections of the Mullins Center. No prior arrangements need to be made to secure seating in these areas, although it is recommended that you arrive early to secure seating. One companion may accompany guests seated in these sections. Seating for additional family members should be available within close proximity of the preferential seating areas.

Designated wheelchair seating locations are available at every internal entrance to the Mullins Center arena. Guests needing wheelchairs must make arrangements to bring their own; wheelchairs are not provided.

Sign Language/Interpreter Services

If you or any of your guests require the services of an interpreter, please contact Disability Services via email with “Graduate Interpreter Request” in the subject line, or by phone (Voice/TTY: 413-545-0892). The deadline for requesting interpreter services is April 19, 2022.
