Joe Van Allen
Assistant Director, Career and Professional Development
Joe Van Allen has made his professional focus helping people figure out what their strengths are and then discovering how they can leverage those strengths into a satisfying career. As an assistant director in the CNS Career & Professional Development Center, he’s ready to engage you in any conversation that’s related to your professional goals, ranging from crafting targeted resumés, to providing feedback on interview behavior, to facilitating discussions about the opportunities available in any given field.
Joe began his career at the LEGO Group while pursuing his MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Upon graduating, he became a Recruitment and Employee Relations Specialist where he would hire for diverse roles including teachers, reporters, IT specialists, and comic book writers. He also developed a knack for designing interactive, flexible training programs and coming up with creative solutions to hiring needs. After LEGO, he was assistant director of career development at Western New England University, where he specialized in supporting students in the sciences through one-on-one meetings and classroom presentations, and served as the advisor for many groups on campus.
When he’s not at work, you’ll most often find Joe attending artistic events in the community, solving everyday problems with spreadsheets, and befriending cats.
