PURF students share ideas about maximizing UMass experience

Recently, I got together with a group of students and faculty who are participating in the “Provost’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship” (PURF) program. New PURF students met with faculty mentors and returning PURF fellows to check in about their research projects and share ideas about how to get the most out of their time at UMass Amherst.

New year brings new Website, new School of Earth & Sustainability, new dean Tricia Serio

For me, 2017 is starting off with a lot of great news. We just launched the new CNS website—I invite you to explore it, and let me know what you think. CNS also welcomes the new School of Earth & Sustainability (SES), which brings together diverse academic programs, research, and outreach that share a common focus on earth, sustainability, and environmental sciences (check back in late February for the new SES website). And saving the best for last—I’m delighted to introduce our new CNS Dean, Tricia R. Serio.

My first year seminar for international students

This past fall, I taught a freshmen seminar for international students. In the class there were 19 students from all over the world – China, Greece, Singapore, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zambia, Vietnam, Myanmar and England.
