Academic Advisor Health Professional (CNS Advising Center)
The College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Professional Advisor will provide academic and guidance counseling for undergraduate students who have an interest in pursuing careers in the health professions. This position will work closely with other CNS advisors, advising personnel at UMass Amherst, and health profession advisors at other colleges and medical schools. The successful incumbent will provide comprehensive, individualized advising to students pursuing careers in the health professions and advise students regarding College and University academic regulations, requirements, and guidelines.
Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in higher education, guidance and counseling, management, science or a related field, preferably in Health Sciences.). At least three (3) years experience in academic advising in higher education or student services area. Knowledge of University academic policies and regulations preferred. Pre-Med/Pre-Health Advising is highly desirable.
Experience working with students with a range of academic abilities (including honors level and academically at-risk) preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action, in a fast-paced office environment. Ability to stay abreast with a high volume and wide array of complex curricular information and academic policies and procedures.
Ability to collaborate with others, to identify and achieve shared goals. Ability to work with a large, culturally diverse faculty and undergraduate population.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Computer proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database programs. Familiarity with SPIRE preferred.
Must be available to work on occasional nights and weekends.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $41,000-$51,500 (midpoint)
NORMAL STARTING SALARY: $41,100-$46,300 (1st quartile)
PROFESSIONAL STAFF SALARY ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM POSITION LEVEL 26.
